Dear Friends of the McGill Ski Team,

2010 ChampionsAs the snow-filled winter months are creeping in, we are eagerly getting ready for the 2011 ski season. As a team, we have taken many great strides, on the hill and within the community.

We are very proud to say that we finished the 2010 competitive season as the Quebec University circuit Men/Women Combined Champions for the first time since 1991! Clearly, our hard work on and off the snow has paid off, as seven of our athletes finished the season in the top 10. We would like to thank you for all of your generous donations from last year, as they helped us in achieving one of our most successful seasons yet. We are tremendously excited, confident and dedicated to keeping our ‘champ’ title this coming winter. We are already months into our dryland training, 4 hours every week. We have also organized and hosted a dual fundraising event to raise money for our team and for Change Montreal, an organization helping raise funds for the new MUHC hospital.

McGill Athletics has recognized our success on the hill, as well as our initiatives as a team within the community by raising us from a Tier-3 to a Tier-2 team. Although Tier-2 means more recognition and support from McGill, it also means we are facing more rules and regulations. This new status gives us more incentive to be more serious and determined. One way in which we will do so is with more experienced coaching. This year we are brining on a second coach who is a level 2 ACA, FIS coach with 30 years of experience under his belt.

Although we do receive funding from McGill University, it is not nearly enough to help us maintain our ambitions to be more intense than ever; competitively and within the community. As you know, the sport of skiing is extremely expensive, taking into account the costs of coaching, equipment and transportation. We ask that you consider supporting the Alpine Ski Team this year. With your support, we can purchase gates, timing equipment and walkie-talkies. With these items, we will have no excuse to not whip through the gates faster than ever! There will be no doubt that we will leave the other teams behind in our snow-dust trails. We also hope to be able to lower team costs for our student athletes (with much emphasis on the ‘student’ aspect of the title), Furthermore, funding helps us concentrate more on another important aspect of our team: being involved within the community.

We are overwhelmingly thankful for any donation. If you would like to help us meet our 2011 season's goals with a financial contribution you can do so online through the McGill Alumni Association - just specify that you would like it to go to the McGill Alpine Ski Team. Your support will help us leave yet another footprint in Alpine Ski History (at the University level anyways). Hopefully, with lots of work, we can move up to Tier-1!

The snow hasn’t come yet, but it will be here soon enough! See you on the slopes!

Sincerely,

Louise Pick & Michel-Olivier Saucier
