Potential Athletes

Becoming a student at McGill University makes it possible to combine an education at one of North America’s premiere universities with a top tier ski program. The McGill ski team is seeking student athletes who are serious about their education while interested in continuing to pursue competitive skiing at a high level.

The McGill Ski Team consists of a 25-person varsity roster based on previous achievement in the sport but also strongly based on which athletes show the most commitment to dryland/offseason fitness, fundraising, attendance and the team in general. Those who do not qualify to be on the varsity roster but still have strong potential will be offered a place on our Development Team. Members of the Development Team may be promoted to the Varsity Team but also Varsity Members may be asked to step onto the Development Team at the beginning of the next season mainly based on results, training and commitment seen by the captains during the season.

The McGill Ski Team competes on the Quebec University Ski Circuit, which consists of university-F.I.S. races and standard university races spanning the Quebec region at hills such as Mont Saint-Sauveur, Mont Sutton, Le Relais, Le Massif and more. Studies permitting, team members may also have the opportunity to compete in F.I.S. races together within a couple hours drive of the downtown McGill campus. All members of the team will train, on snow, together twice a week but will have opportunity for extra training if desired.

The McGill ski team also has an athletic based scholarship available to one male and one female athlete per year. The scholarship can be maintained from year to year based on previous year’s performance. There are also many academic awards given out to dedicated students and athletes contributing to extracurricular, volunteering, or showing strong dedication to research and education.

Do not forget the application deadlines at McGill University are January 15th for international students, February 1st for students applying from within Canada and finally March 1st for Quebec residents.
